About Us

In Kent, Surrey and Sussex, we support our health professionals by facilitating access to national leadership programmes and by providing our own, localised leadership programmes and networks.

The KSS Leadership Academy supports its leaders to think strategically and to work collaboratively with the aim of enabling stronger relationships within in teams, organisations and across traditional organisational boundaries. We also aim to develop leaders who can initiate change and have the ability to adapt to changing environments. This way we will ensure that services are able to respond to the region’s emerging healthcare needs and ultimately, the needs of our patients.

We are both a local development partner of the NHS Leadership Academy and the internal leadership and OD directorate of Health Education England working across Kent, Surrey & Sussex. In this role, we support the work of Health Education England's Kent, Surrey and Sussex Team in the training and education of our workforce consulting and advising on where their work touches on leadership.

The Role of the Collaborative

We hope that by bringing our leaders together, alongside developing their communication, influencing and collaboration skills, we will enable our leaders to create a collective view. This way barriers preventing effective leadership will be broken down placing the patients at the centre and putting their needs above those of any single organisation.

We are growing and nurturing talent across Kent, Surrey and Sussex creating leaders who can articulate the vision of future services and take people with them on this journey. Our leaders need to inspire, engage and support their employees through innovation and forward-thinking to ensure excellent patient care is delivered. This will improve the health of people across our region and allow us to provide positive outcomes for each and every patient.

Pivotal to all our programmes is inclusivity. We recognise that everyone has the potential to demonstrate their leadership wherever they are employed and at whatever level of experience they are operating in. We actively work to ensure that everyone we represent has equal access to the development opportunities we provide. In addition, we believe in a multi-disciplinary approach to development which builds relationships, create shared experiences and improves understanding of the diverse roles and people that work for the health service.

Wherever possible we will try to involve and utilise the talents of our existing leaders as designers of training and as mentors and coaches. We also bring in expert external advice and support to ensure that our programmes are of the highest quality and that fresh ideas can be continually introduced to support professional leadership of the health system.

Our Pledges

In Kent, Surrey and Sussex our approach to leadership development can be explained in the following five pledges:

  1. We are leadership development and talent management focused and our work is aligned to support the quality improvements of services through transition and beyond
  2. We aim to design commission and deliver leadership development that is innovative, inspiring and high impact.
  3. We work in consultation with our strategic partners to design programmes that are locally relevant and consider the future of healthcare delivery.
  4. We look to create learning and development opportunities for clinicians (multi-disciplinary) and non-clinicians together in order to promote an understanding of each other’s roles, build trusted relationships and stimulate sharing of ideas.
  5. We recognise and accommodate the needs of specific staff groupings and emphasise development opportunities to underrepresented groups

Anne-Marie Archard

Director, London Leadership Academy; Kent, Surrey and Sussex Leadership Academy

Anne-Marie has been working in the public sector for over 20 years and in the last 10 has focused on leadership development and workforce development. She has held a variety of roles at a strategic level in the NHS including being the national lead on the NHS leadership qualities framework at the Leadership Centre, overseeing the development of Workforce for London, the NHS London workforce strategy and being Programme Lead for the leadership team at NHS London. 

Currently Anne-Marie is the Head of the London Leadership Academy and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Leadership Academy, the local delivery partners of the NHS Leadership Academy, where she focuses on the commissioning, design and delivery of leadership development programmes that address the challenges of leading health organisations in a complex environment.

Anne-Marie is an active qualified coach, coach supervisor and facilitator.

 

Over the last few years she has taken a number of roles and been responsible for managing a service improvement team, strategic leadership and talent management in the south east region, the commissioning and delivery of leadership programmes and the creation of a number of learning networks. She enjoys combining a strategic role with opportunities to directly engage in the learning process.

Laurainne Copnall

Leadership Project Manager

Laurainne joined the NHS in 1994 where she set up and managed a programme of postgraduate CPD events for Dentists in Croydon and the South East, as well as supporting the local Vocational Dental Practitioners Training Scheme.  After relocating to West Sussex, she joined South East Coast SHA working with the Leadership team on various projects including the HR Business Partner Programme, Safeguarding Children Programme and the BME Development Programme.

Following this Laurainne joined the KSS Deanery as Surrey Patch Manager for three years where she was responsible for GP Trainer Accreditations for Surrey.  In addition, she managed KSS GP Programme Director Recruitment, the Overlap System, Retainer Scheme, the GP Website and supported the Broad Based Training pilot for Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Laurainne joined the KSS Leadership Collaborative in September 2013 as project lead/liaison for the NHS Leadership Academy Core Programmes: Mary Seacole, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson and Nye Bevan.

Jane Hubble

Leadership Programme Manager

Jane has worked in the NHS for eleven years in a variety of settings at senior management level, predominantly in Education and Development. Jane’s great passion is around coaching and supervision with a particular focus on enabling others to reach full potential and on supporting individuals and teams manage change within the NHS.

Jane joined the team August 2014 and is currently leading on the following projects

Kerry Moody

Leadership Programme Manager

Kerry has over 15 years NHS experience in a variety of roles from training, patient safety and governance, to more recently service improvement and leadership. Her work has been within both acute and strategic organisations which has provided experience of real operational challenges.

An experienced Virtual and Action Learning Facilitator and mentor, she has also worked within Service Improvement, developing and designing programmes and working with teams to facilitate implementation.

Annemi Muller

Leadership Programme Support Officer

Annemi started her career in the optical industry for four years before moving into the utilities sector initially in the role as metering asset management assistant before moving into an internal auditing role. Before joining the NHS, she worked part-time for a private IT consultancy firm as administrator.

Annemi joined the NHS as Leadership Administrator for the KSS Leadership Collaborative Team before moving into the new role as Leadership Programme Support Officer. She will be supporting the Director and Leadership Programme Managers in ensuring that processes are in place to manage all aspects of Leadership Programme activity within the team. The role requires the appropriate facilitation and monitoring of programme activities and progress as well as planning and organising complex activities to assist in their delivery. The role also includes the collation and analysis of evidence to feed into the teams’ evaluation approach.
